A most welcome remaster of the 1981 album from the Brit industrial band named after a Zürich nightclub. ‘Red Mecca’ was the last album Cabaret Voltaire recorded with Chris Watson. His pioneering production has here been filtered: the scuzzy guitars on ‘Red Mask’ sound louder, almost tribal, while the synths on ‘Spread the Virus’ now sound as abrasive as the urban field recordings he carefully inserted.
