Two of Cork's finest musicians to an evening of music in Plugd
Rua Rí is a singer-songwriter from Cobh in Cork. Growing up on an island, it is rare that the sea does not bleed into the folk artists music in one way or another. Other influences of his music include 70s folk and traditional Irish music. Expressing his identity through music has always been important to the 21-year-old, who writes warm, melodic folk songs accompanied with his own distinct vocal tone and accent. The artists’ first release, ‘Shepherd’s Delight,’ is a 5-track homemade EP that he recorded with the help of his friends. Growing up in a musical household, singing has long established a place in Rita’s heart. However it wasn’t until her early 20’s, while both living and traveling in the US she began developing as a songwriter. Influences include her own father, multi-instrumentalist/singer songwriter Jack, Swedish band Little Dragon, Nick Hakim, Amy Winehouse, and Nina Simone. Now based in Cork City, Rita seeks to hold a space for audiences to unravel inward through her soulful set. Accompanied by delicate piano, Rita's vocals are led by emotional intuition, offering a stripped back performance of her originals. In her writing, Rita hopes to evoke shared truths, drawing influence from nature, intimacy, movement, heartache and spiritual wonder. Hoping to resonate with listeners, Rita explores her own experiences through song.
