Marking his label debut on Antinote, Parisian producer Nathan Melja takes a sledgehammer to the shelter of 90s dance nostalgia with a trio of forward-thinking experimental house cuts. The wily twists and turns of ‘Deadrums’ defers comfort with a bombastic and unruly beat, while the quiet irreverence of ‘Angels’ sees Melja subtly undermine his own rhythm with a disobedient hi-hat. Most surprising of all is closer ‘Candy’, armed with a cheeky melody line that’s a sonic depiction of a rude hand gesture.
