Released on Columbia Records in 1963, Monk’s Dream is the debut album from North Carolina jazz legend Thelonius Monk. The record came after Monk had taken a long time away from the studio and it cemented his status one of the most important composers and performers working in American jazz. From the crossover success of Body & Soul to his charming interpretation of Irving Caesar’s Just A Gigolo the record is idiosyncratic and almost instantly iconic- much like its maker.
