The debut album by A Silver Mt. Zion (now Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra) was recorded at the Hotel2Tango in late 1999 and released in the spring of 2000. This is the work of three founding members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, assisted by a few guest musicians. The record is raw and sparse, with bits of digital sound, piano, strings, field recordings and personal themes—music constructed with a loosely experimental, soundtrack-like quality. A mournful and contemplative document, infused with sadness, comfort, and beauty.
